About

Born in London, Cathy spent her early years in Paris and New York before returning to London in the late 1960’s to study at the Royal College of Art. After her years studying Architectural Stained Glass in London, Cathy set up a stained glass studio in mid Wales which she spent twenty five years running. Moving to Whitstable in the early 1990’s offered Cathy a new beginning, both physically and artistically. She built at studio at the end of her garden and began painting.

Cathy now teaches a lively Tuesday art group at the Umbrella Centre, open to all abilities and also gives lessons to small private groups from her studio. She additionally is as a committee member that runs the Fishslab Gallery, a non-profit community gallery on Oxford Street, Whitstable.

Cathy is a longstanding member of SGI International, a socially engaged Buddhist organization working for world peace through individual transformation. Her daily practice of chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo helps her to engage in life's creative rhythm, and through her art she hopes to communicate the wonderful dance of life.

"When we create or appreciate art, we set free the spirit trapped within. That is why art arouses such joy. Art - whether skilfully executed or not - is the emotion, the pleasure of expressing life as it is."

-Daisaku Ikeda, President of Soka Gakkai International
